This man showed the kids how ropes were made back then. Lengths of twine were tied to a stake at one end,

then looped around three pegs at the other end and twisted by rotating this metal crank over and over and over.

After the three strands were all twisted separately, this wooden block was used to help twist them together.

The end was then tied so it all wouldn't unravel.

ANd now it's time for a bit of tug-o-war!

The girls won!
How interesting - and it's so pretty.
