Torrey Pines State Beach

After leaving Harbor Island we headed north to Torrey Pines State Beach for a little hiking and geocaching. Deena wanted to see that this geocaching is all about, so we showed her.

It was also nice getting a little bit of excercise next to the ocean. Such beautiful views from here!

We ended up finding two out of three caches, and had a wonderful time walking among the Torrey Pines.

Sailing along

CJ & Katie's grandma Deena came to visit us. After picking her up at the airport we headed over to Harbor Island to see the sailboats in San Diego Bay. It looked like a race was going on as the fast boats were out. Even some of the America's Cup yachts were in the bay under full sail.

Not all the sailboats were racing. This two-masted boat was out on a sight-seeing cruise.

And there were other boats without sails. These two were using manpower instead of windpower.

A Dog's Life

This is Chip, snuggled up with his favorite blankie, sleeping in his favorite spot on Katie's bed, and hugging his favorite toy, a duck almost as big as he is. What a life!!

It's All About Katie!

Katie invited her girlfriends to "It's All About The Girl" to help her celebrate her birthday. What a fun place!

First they had their nails painted, after picking out their favorite color, of course!

Then it was make-up (just a little glitter on the cheeks and lips - they are still too young for much more than that!) and hair.

Isn't she the prettiest groovy-girl around?

Then they got to sing karaoke and make a bracelet to take home.

They were having so much fun singing along to their favorite songs that they didn't want to stop for pizza and cake. But in the end, the food won out.

Especially since we promised to let them sing one more song.

Then Katie got to finish up with saying thank you to all her friends. What a great day that was all about Katie!

Follow the Yellow Brick Road

As part of Katie's birthday celebration, she took her bff to see the Wizard of Oz, put on by the San Diego Junior Theatre at the Casa del Prado Theatre in Balboa Park. But first, we stopped in at the Prado for lunch.

Kaite got a birthday flan cheesecake there. She prefered the ice cream that came with the kids meal, so I ate the flan. mmmmm......

Then it was off to see the wizard!

After the play we found a flower that looked like it was straight out of Dr. Seuss. Not sure what it is but the girls loved it. What a great day! Great food, great entertainment and great company!

Katie turned 8 this week. See, there are 8 candles on her cake.

Boys and their moms

The night after the Father/Daughter Dance is the boys' turn to take their moms out. CJ took me out to eat at Islands with a couple other boys and moms before heading to the dance. But before we left, I got to take 3 pictures of CJ. He just doesn't like to pose like his sissy does. In fact, I asked him to give me some poses and he said "No Thanks". What a polite boy!

As soon as we got to the school for the dance, CJ went outside to find the dessert table. This year it was Animal Crackers and licorice sticks.

Then after eating all that sugar, it's time to run and throw balls. I did get one slow dance and half of the Hokey Pokey, so I'm not complaining at all! This is our last Mother/Son dance, unless we crash next years, since CJ will be in Middle School next year.
