Mrs. Whaley

Meet Mrs. Anna Whaley. She is the daughter of French-born parents and married to Thomas Whaley, who built the Whaley house located at Old Town State Park.
She is a docent at the park and taught Katie and her classmates about what it was like living in
San Diego from the time of the first inhabitants, the Kumeyaay Indians, until the early 1900s.

She had old photographs of the town, and drawings of Native American dwellings.

She also had costumes to dress the kids up in. Katie was dressed as one of the first women to open a boarding house in San Diego.

Standing with Katie is the first teacher in San Diego, and a couple othre early American women.

The kids learned lots of good history without even knowing it!
